The BAMBI has been cast by Strassacker for more than fifty years. Each BAMBI is a unique artwork, for the mould is made by hand and shattered once the bronze has cooled.
The production of a BAMBI starts with making a negative mould out of silicone. Then special green wax is poured into this “hollow” silicone mould. The cooled and hardened wax fawn is then dipped into a ceramic mass. This creates a kind of “coat” which becomes a solid ceramic mould in the kiln. The wax, on the other hand, melts. Then liquid bronze at 1,250 degrees is poured into this hollow shell. When it has cooled, the deer is freed from the ceramic shell and an unfinished bronze casting is obtained. Only after many elaborate production stages, when the chiseller completes the precise fine work, does the blank turn into a final shape, at last obtaining its inimitable sheen in the galvanizing bath, and concluding the artistic work.
In accordance with the wishes of the company Burda for a modern BAMBI, the sculptors in our studio designed a new, modern, dynamic version of the BAMBI which is nonetheless linked to the traditional statue.
