Luigi Colani

Luigi Colani is considered one of the most important designers of our time, who revolutionized our conceptions of the configurability of the product world for more than 50 years. In all sectors he has left his mark. Cars, cameras, airplanes, computers, furniture, pianos ... he has transformed almost everything and optimized it in its typical organic shape. There is hardly a design award, which he has not received yet in his long career. For many years now, he has shared his extensive knowledge as a professor at various universities.

Before studying aerodynamics at the Sorbonne in Paris, Colani attended the "academy of fine arts" (Hochschule für Bildende Künste) in Berlin and studied sculpture and painting. Even then, he was fascinated by the malleability of the material and in fact the design work of the product and the free standing sculptures are quite comparable. The organic/flowing form plays a significant role. And last but not least: As a designer and a visual artist, Colani still "thinks" and outlines using crayons and plaster models.
