1,000 Figures, one Vision: Michal Trpáks "Going"
The Czech artist Michal Trpák realized a new copy of his extraordinary bronze artwork "Going" with us in Süßen. In the process, he shared his thoughts about the sculpture and the production process in our Strassacker foundry.
Michal Trpák:
“I first made this sculpture, originally 5 meters tall, for the atrium of Krizik Palace in Prague. The idea was about society – a system built by single individuals who together create the whole.
From a distance, you see only the silhouette of the figure, the system. But up close you notice the individuals, each with their own universe, equally important as the whole. And then, there is also one small figure who goes the opposite direction from the rest...”
“Going consists of around 1,000 figures. All of the figures are marching in the same direction – except one. Casting them and welding everything together takes a few months."
“Bronze is the only possible material to make it at this scale."
Collaborating with artists like Michal Trpák and realizing their vision is always a special experience as it allows us not only to contribute our skills as a foundry but also to witness how an idea transforms into a living work of art.
