On 10 June 2024, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier presented a miniature version of the sculpture ‘Paperbomb’ by artist Nessi Nezilla to French President Emmanuel Macron as a memento of the 80th anniversary of the massacre in Oradour-sur-Glane. The sculpture was realised by Strassacker and stands for hope and new beginnings.

Sculpture 'Paperbomb'

A symbol of peace and reconciliation

At two metres high and cast from aluminium, the sculpture looks like it has been made of paper. ‘Paperbomb’ is a memorial to peace, remembrance and friendship and symbolises Franco-German reconciliation, writes the Office of the Federal President on the President's Instagram account.

‘The PAPERBOMB reminds us that we must learn from history in order to not repeat the mistakes of the past. In her artistic exploration, the sculpture embodies not only the memory of past deeds, but also the hope for a more peaceful future based on political friendship and solidarity,’ shared artist Nessi Nezilla on her Instagram account.
